HANDFASTING CORD

The expression “tying the knot” refers to the traditional Celtic marriage ritual of Handfasting. Handfasting is an ancient Celtic word for wedding, where the Bride’s and Groom’s hands were bound together with a cord or cloth and then tied in a “love knot” to symbolize the joining of their lives in the sacred union of marriage.
The Celtic Handfasting Cord consists of two small knots and one large knot. The two smaller knots represent the lives of the Bride and Groom. Each of their individual knots were made by weaving the cords together in a maze like pattern. This represents the many roads in life that the Bride and Groom traveled to bring them to this moment in time. The large center knot is the “love knot” which symbolizes the joining of their two lives into one, on this, their wedding day.
May this Handfasting Cord always remind you of the day you “tied the knot” and your two hearts were joined as one, forever and always.
(Optional) Two charms may be added to the Handfasting Cord. One charm is two hearts that are intertwined, and the other charm is the year in which the couple was married.
These Handfasting Cords are handmade by a little Celtic lady from England. She says she has help from a Pixie!
